More Cotswolds engineering works

Postby Butoxeter » Fri Aug 14, 2009 9:19 pm

I thought I would share some more images of the current engineering works on the Cotswolds line, starting with this night time view of the Oxford end of Chipping Campden tunnel, which had just had the Up line re-laid through it. The new Down line will be installed in a few days time, albeit not connected up at either end for a few more months.

The Up line will continue to be operated as a single line until the new Down line is finally installed throughout the section of the route that is being redoubled. The track is being put through the tunnel now, due to the fact that this is the obvious time to do this particular job, given the logistical issues of relaying in a tunnel with an open line of railway immediately adjacent.

I love seeing your photos like these! Such a shame we lost National Renewals in the '6 to 4' scheme as I was due to go and work on it.
