Steam on the Cambrian

Postby Dukedog » Mon Aug 09, 2010 8:00 pm

Just got back from a week in "sunny" North Wales!
Managed to get a snapshot of "The Cambrian" steam special as it passed through our camp site at Aberech.

I may be wrong but I think this is the first time a Black 5 has ventured onto Cambrian metals(?)

I've been told their were issues about the weight of the tender, resolved by not running with it full.

You are correct Neil. Ian Riley has built a false bottom (this cranes in and out as required) for his black 5 tender to reduce the coal capacity, this plus the reduction of the water capacity due to use on the way to Barmouth bridge makes it just below the max weight
Cheers Phil

I used to be normal but I'm better now

Pity about having done all of that work, only for the introduction of ERTMS to deny access to steam locos... :(
